Workshop on Research Writing Strategies (Research Report Writing) for the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education (SSPE)

On 6 January 2021, Dr Amy Dai and Ms Carmen Li from ELTU conducted a research writing workshop for final-year students from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education (SSPE) to support their preparation of the final-year project research report. The workshop was conducted via Zoom due to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objectives of the workshop include (1) to reinforce the content covered in Workshop 1 (conducted in March 2020); (2) to introduce research report writing skills (especially for results, discussion & conclusion sections); (3) to provide further language support; and (4) to introduce research writing resources on the Capstone Ninja mobile app.

Similar to the arrangements in the previous cohorts, students were invited to share their feedback on the workshop through an online survey. The results suggest that the students found the workshop effective in enriching their knowledge of the components to be included in the key sections, namely results, discussion and conclusion. In terms of language focuses, students were able to learn tips on structuring sentences properly, improving grammatical accuracy and citing references in full compliance with the APA style. The EAC team is encouraged by the generally positive feedback and looks forward to providing writing and language support (in forms of conducting research writing workshops and consultation sessions as well as offering individual feedback on research proposal drafts) to future cohorts in the coming terms.
