Workshop on Improving Academic Writing Skills for the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies (CURE)

On September 27th, 2022, Mr. Richard Goss conducted a 45-minute workshop on improving academic writing skills for Professor Tobias Brandner’s course, THEO2221/5321 Early and Medieval Church History. The objectives of the workshop were: 1) to help students identify and improve upon common problems in their academic papers, 2) to teach students how to self-edit their written work before submitting it for grading, 3) to familiarize students with more sophisticated sentence structure, including compound and complex sentences, and 4) to introduce students to online resources, including free ones, that may help them access English materials more easily and take advantage of the free online resources. Students appreciated Mr. Goss’ enthusiasm to conduct the workshop and his clear explanations of the materials. The workshop was delivered in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with an accompanying handout listing recommendations for online resources for students to improve their English abilities independently.
