On February 5th, 2024 Ms. Kristy Chan, along with Ms. Sarah Abramson held the first of a three-part workshop series for Dr. Joseph Cho’s course, GDRS1002 Feminisms: Theories, Debates and Activism. This is the sixth year of this collaboration between the English Across the Curriculum (EAC) Project and the Gender Studies Programme. This workshop introduced students to gendered language and how the correct use of gendered language is important within the field of Gender Studies. Students were given the opportunity to explore that different words impact the meaning of a sentence and to practice replacing gendered terms with gender neutral words. The workshop materials consisted of a PowerPoint and a paper handout for students. Overall, students found the workshop to be engaging and the material to be practical for their studies. The EAC team will return for the second workshop in this series on February 26th.
