On 22 January 2025, Dr. Olive Cheung conducted a two-hour workshop on Final Year Thesis Writing, with a particular focus on abstract writing, for final-year students in the Urban Studies Programme. This event was part of a collaboration between the English Across the Curriculum (EAC) Project and the Urban Studies Programme (URSP). As a change from previous workshops, this session included a new segment led by the URSP team, which provided students with an overview of data collection methods. The second part of the workshop, delivered by the EAC team, familiarized students with the structure and conventions of abstract writing, highlighted common language errors, and offered strategies for avoiding them. Students participated in interactive exercises designed to reinforce their understanding of abstract writing, as well as appropriate vocabulary, and correct tense usage. Attendees received a PowerPoint presentation and a handout as supplementary materials. Students were attentive throughout the workshop and gave positive feedback in the post-workshop survey, especially praising the interactive exercises and the use of student samples.
