On February 24 and March 13, 2025, the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offered two identical in-person workshop sessions on Final Year Project (FYP) oral presentations for undergraduate students of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM) and Financial Technology (FTEC). This workshop was a new initiative designed to enhance students’ understanding of common conventions in academic presentations and equip them with a variety of skills for creating and delivering oral presentations. In particular, the workshop focused on the language features commonly found in FYP oral presentations in SEEM and FTEC, as well as verbal and non-verbal communication strategies. The EAC instructor, Mr. Matthew Fung, provided student samples from the departments and included exercises for students to reflect on their own presentation practices. In a post-workshop feedback survey, students indicated that they perceived the workshop as a helpful supplement to their content classes.
