In 2023 – 24 Term 1, Mr Oliver Yung from the ELTU EAC team returned to the GECW1010 University and Society course to deliver a workshop to reinforce academic writing skills in a number of aspects, namely introductions and thesis statements, topic sentences and developing a body paragraph, incorporating academic evidence, as well as citation and referencing. Mr Yung guided students to analyse a sample text and complete a series of in-class activities in pairs. To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, students were invited to share their feedback in a survey, in which the results show that the workshop was generally well received.
