Two repeated sessions of the research writing workshop were conducted on 28 February 2019 and 2 March 2019 by Dr. Jose Lai and Dr. Allen Ho from ELTU for students who are taking SPED4900 Research Project and working on their final-year project report. The objectives of this workshop are 1) to recap areas covered in workshop 1 (conducted in September 2018), including the overall structure of a research report and functions of each section; 2) to introduce writing skills for results, discussion and conclusion sections; 3) to reinforce language points including useful phrases for describing trends; 4) to highlight the correct use of APA citation style; and 5) to introduce research writing resources. To facilitate students’ self-learning, recommended research articles annotated by the instructors were shared with students.
Students were invited to complete a survey after attending the workshop for their feedback. The results show that the workshop was well-received by students; they particularly appreciated instructors’ effort in designing materials with a view to strengthening their skills in writing a research report and helping them improve various language areas. The interactive activities were welcomed by students as well. The EAC team is pleased with the feedback and is looking forward to continuing the collaboration with SSPE teachers and students.
