The final workshop offered as part of the creative writing project is on creative non-fiction writing, held on 27 March, 2020 by Dr Christelle Davis. In response to the COVD-19 outbreak, the workshop was conducted via Zoom to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
This final workshop garnered great interest from undergraduates, graduates and staff all across campus. There are many branches of creative non-fiction writing, and Dr Davis focused on memoirs. The one-hour session covered the elements of a memoir and metaphoric thinking techniques through analyses of examples, periods of self-reflection and engaging writing activities. The workshop received very positive feedback and participants left with newfound inspiration and confidence to write compelling and reflective personal pieces. The four workshops attracted all types of writers and confirmed that there is indeed a vibrant creative writing community on campus. The EAC project team hopes to continue cultivating a personal creative writing space for all members of the university by offering more creative writing workshops and activities in the academic years to come.
