On March 2nd, 2023, Dr. Greg Wu held a workshop on academic book review writing for students enrolled in BUDS5014 Buddhist Studies in the West. This course is a part of the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies’ Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Programme and is taught by Professor Douglas Gildow. Dr. Wu introduced students to the structure of an academic book review and the related writing conventions. Students were given an opportunity to work with professional samples and analyze the different elements of a well written book review. Dr. Wu also clarified the way that the assessment rubric lined up with professional book reviews. Overall, the students found the workshop’s material to be highly useful in preparation for their own book review writing. They found Dr. Wu’s presentation to be clear and engaging. The EAC project team is pleased with how this workshop went and looks forward to future collaborations with the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies.
