On February 26th, 2024, Dr. Greg Wu held a 75-minute workshop for students enrolled in BUDS5014 Buddhist Studies in the West on writing an academic book review. This is the third year of this collaboration between the English Across the Curriculum (EAC) Project and Professor Douglas Gildow’s course, which is a part of the Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Programme offered by the Department of Cult4ural and Religious Studies. Dr. Wu introduced students to the basic structure of an academic book review as well as the key language skills related to the writing style of this genre. Students were given an opportunity to work with samples from professional academic book reviews related to their field of study to give them an understanding of how to properly compose a book review. The feedback provided by students was overwhelmingly positive. Overall, the EAC Project team is pleased with how this workshop went and looks forward to future collaborations with Professor Gildow and the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies.
