Abstract Writing Workshop for the Urban Studies Programme (URSP)

On January 17th, 2024, Dr. Olive Cheung held a two-hour workshop on Abstract Writing for final year students enrolled in the Urban Studies Programme who are completing their Capstone Thesis/Project. The collaboration between the English Across the Curriculum (EAC) Project and the Urban Studies Programme (URSP) has existed since the 2017-2018 academic year and this workshop was the second intervention held during the 2023-2024 academic year. This workshop provided students with an overview of what is required in an abstract and had the opportunity to engage in several activities where they worked with sample abstracts from past students. Additionally, Dr. Cheung introduced students to resources to help strengthen their academic English skills and effectively write their Capstone. The workshop materials consisted of a PowerPoint presentation and a handout, with digital copies made available afterwards. Overall, students were engaged during the workshop and gave positive feedback in the post-workshop survey. The EAC team is pleased with how this year’s interventions went and looks forward to future collaborations with the Urban Studies Programme.
