A writing workshop was held for students taking the General Education course: University and Society (GECW1010) in CW Chu College on November 9 and November 30, 2018. Both workshops were led by Ms Jessica Acuna, assistant lecturer at ELTU. After doing a needs analysis of past students’ work in the course, Ms Acuna designed this workshop to guide current students in understanding what constitutes good academic writing. The workshop included practices on writing thesis statements, discussions to review features of coherence, and activities to incorporate academic evidence with basic standards of referencing.
Based on the post-workshop evaluations, the workshop was well-received and the students appreciated reviewing sample papers written by former students. They indicated that the learning objectives were achieved and that they enjoyed working constructively with their partners through peer-review.
