Ms Jessica Acuña led a writing workshop for CW Chu College students enrolled in Prof Kenneth Young’s University and Society (GECW1010) on 8 November, 2019. The three-hour workshop focused on the main elements of good academic paper writing and aimed at helping students with 1) determining the statement of purpose, 2) establishing a clear thesis, 3) developing a coherent essay structure 4) incorporating credible evidence and 5) appropriately documenting sources. To fully benefit from the session, students were encouraged to bring a completed first draft of their essay to the workshop. Through ample opportunity for stage-by-stage peer review, interactive activities and individual feedback from the teacher and TA, students were able to reflect on their drafts and increase the quality of their work. Student feedback was very positive and they found the workshop to be engaging, productive and helpful.
