The launch of the creative writing project was very well-received last academic year. The high number of participants in the previous workshops and competition shows that there is a growing creative writing community at CUHK. Both staff and students, novice and seasoned writers alike, showed immense interest and enthusiasm in the workshops. Along with other new events and activities, the team is excited to offer a second round of the workshops in the 2020-2021 academic year.
On 25 September, 2020, Dr Antony Huen was warmly welcomed back to hold a poetry writing workshop on Zoom. The interactive and discussion-based workshop gave participants an introduction to the genre of poetry through the appreciation and literary analysis of a variety of poems. Participants were encouraged to explore their own identities, feelings, and experiences, as well as those of others, through the use of poetic devices during the guided writing exercises. A few highlights from the workshop include the readings of contemporary poetry and the opportunities for peer and instructor feedback in the friendly and supportive writing environment.
