ELTU Symposium 2024:

Towards a Sustainable and Transferable Model of

English Across the Curriculum (EAC)

7 – 8 June 2024

Lecture Theater 2, G/F, Yasumoto International Academic Park (YIA), CUHK

The English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is delighted to announce the upcoming ELTU Symposium to be held in June 2024 with the theme “Towards a Sustainable and Transferable Model of English Across the Curriculum (EAC).” This symposium will take place over 1.5 days on 7 and 8 June 2024 (Friday and Saturday) at the Yasumoto International Academic Park (YIA) at CUHK.

This symposium aims to provide a platform for interested parties to engage in professional exchange and dialogue, with the hope of implementing EAC in their own settings. Participants will learn from the expertise and experience of seven guest speakers from universities in Australia, Hong Kong, Mainland China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. There will also be two roundtable discussions in which the invited panelists, who are content teachers from various disciplines and collaborators of CUHK’s EAC Project, will share their experiences of and insights into “EAC in Science, Engineering and Medicine” and “EAC in Arts, Education and Social Science” respectively. Over the course of the symposium, all attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with one another during the scheduled networking breaks.

By gathering like-minded researchers, English Language Teaching (ELT) practitioners, and content teachers to share their insights into the implementation and sustainability of EAC, participants can reflect on their current practices while exploring alternate ways to enrich and complement the language support provided in their settings.
