This course is designed for second-year students in the Faculty of Education to improve their powers of persuasion through spoken and written academic English. After all, educators are artful persuaders; they must persuade students to learn, parents to trust them, and administrators about what is in the students’ best interest. As such, the course emphasizes an understanding and application of the language of persuasion – or ethos, logos, and pathos – as well as discussion skills, academic presentation skills, questioning skills, and the development of persuasive writing based on research. Through developing these skills, students will have opportunities to use written and spoken English as a communication tool in teaching and learning contexts.
Advisory: For Year 2 students of Faculty of Education only.
