On 17 September 2025, Dr. Olive Cheung conducted a workshop on academic literature reviews for final-year students in the Urban Studies Program (URSP). This workshop aimed to familiarize students with the essential functions and sections of a literature review, preparing them for their capstone project reports. Following the success of last year’s modified joint workshop format, which included a program-specific introduction by Dr. Sampson Wong, the same approach was implemented for the 2025-26 academic year.
While Dr. Wong provided a general introduction to research methods and literature reviews in Urban Studies, Dr. Cheung focused on the main features, structure, and language conventions of a written literature review.
Additionally, workshop participants were given sample literature reviews from published papers and previous students to analyse based on the features introduced earlier. Dr. Cheung encouraged students to discuss in class which samples were outstanding, and which did not meet academic standards.
In the post-workshop feedback survey, students expressed their enjoyment of the interactive sample analysis and satisfaction with the teaching approach.
