About Figment

Figment: The ELTU's Online Literary Journal is a curated, themed platform that embraces and celebrates CUHK students' creative voices.

We are now accepting entries for creative writing relating to the current theme. Themes will change each semester.

We encourage you to experiment with different genres and submit multiple pieces to your genre(s) of preference, as long as they directly or indirectly respond to the theme. Please be noted that your work will be subject to being proofread and edited by the project team upon publication on the platform.


The submission window is from January to the end of April 2021.

PROSE: Word limit 1500 words (excluding title) per piece.

POETRY: Limited to 3 poems per theme

Genres we accept: Short story, poetry, memoir, food writing (narrative; excluding restaurant and food reviews), creative non fiction, photo essays, travel writing and song lyrics. If there is a genre you would like to submit that is not listed, please feel free to email us concerning your work!

1. Submissions must be from current students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

    Undergraduate and postgraduate students from all faculties and programs are encouraged to submit their work.

2. No previous writing or publishing experience necessary for submission.

3. Submissions must be emailed to eltucreativewriting@cuhk.edu.hk

4. The project team reserves the right to review and select submissions most suitable for publication according to the theme.

5. Submissions will be edited and proofread by the project team before publication.

6. Every piece must have a title.

7. Entries must be written in English.

8. There is no submission fee.

9. Submissions must be original work. Any form of plagiarism will disqualify the entry.

10. Entries should not have been previously published, whether online or in print (including self-publishing on a blog).

11. All published work will be used for English Across the Curriculum (EAC) purposes only.

12. All personal data and information collected will be used for administration and EAC purposes only and will not be disclosed to any third parties.
